The elite's pace for this race were to slow for the" more experienced" SV sub vet group and the elites were caught and passed by the SV's !! have a look at the race results on the PPA website,

News Letter Nr. 4

I trust this newsletter find you all in good health and working hard towards achieving your goals / New Year’s resolutions.... We have less than two weeks before our trials and 230 days to the DEAFLYMPICS!! I trust you kept yourself in good shape for our trials...

The organising committee gathered on Thursday 15 January to do the final planning, all seem to be in place and I would like to pass some of the arrangements on to you.

1. ACCOMMODATION:

The accommodation arranged is situated in Bellville close to the Tygervalley Centre, called the Serangeti Self Catering Units. (C/o Mountain View Ave and Bill Bezuiden-hout Ave, Bellville. We get entrance to the flats on Friday 30 January at 4 pm (possi-bly earlier) and must be out 8.30 on Monday (the last bunch). Contact myself Jurg 083 702 2826 or owner Chris Swart 083 768 9062.

2. TEAM BUILDING:

For team building and smooth organising it was felt that all cyclists must BOOK IN on Friday and stay with the group until Sunday after the road race and braai. We can allow an additional person / supporter per cyclist but this must be confirmed with Jurg.

4. COST

The cost / per person (registration fee) would be R150 which will be used for the cost of a golf T-shirt. All other cost would be for the account of the organising committee; accommodation, food, reg. fees, travelling to and from venues (help with personal transport costs), airfares etc. We need your R150 reg. fee upon arrival and bring along some spending money (one or two meals for your pocket).

5. TRANSPORT:

Transport will be provided, to and from airport and venues (sprinter bus and cycle trailer)

Thursday 29 Jan:
Early arrival of some participants.

Friday 30 Jan:
Arrival of all participants and booking in at Serangeti Accommodation, Bellville.
19:00 Welcoming & Supper.
Feedback presentation from Invitation team on Tour de Formosa, 1-9 Nov. 08 Taipei.

Saturday 31 Jan
06:30 – 07:00 Breakfast at Serangeti
08:00 Departure to Klipheuwel for Time trial.
09:00 Start of 30km Time trial.
11:00 Return to Serangeti.
13:00 – 14:00 Serving of Lunch.
Afternoon relaxation at Tygervalley Centre (Ten Pin bowling etc.).
19:00 Supper at Serangeti. Loading of cycles, relaxation and early night.

Sunday 01 Feb. (Race day)
04:30 Breakfast at Serangeti.
05:00 Getting ready for departure to Constantia at 05:15 sharp.
05:45 Arrival, offloading & registration (False Bay Rugby Club grounds).
06:00 Final preparations and warming up.
06:30 Start of 88km Roller Coaster League race (Deaf group may start about 15 min later).

ROUTE DESCRIPTION: Head out along Spaanschemat River Road (level) and over the Eastern side of Ou Kaapse Weg (270m steep climb) to Sun Valley. Continue straight over Black Hill (Medium climb) to Main Road, turn right through Simonstown, up Smitswinkel (gradual 230m climb) past Cape Point, through Scarborough, and up the Slangkop climb (100m climb) to Kommetjie before returning towards Sun Valley. Then it’s up and over Ou Kaapse Weg (270m gradual climb) for the second time and all the way to the finish in Ladies Mile Extension (level).

10:00 All should be safely back at start to return to Serangeti at 10:30.
13:00 Barbeque lunch.
Information sharing about Deaflympics & team selection process.

Monday 02 Feb.
Departure of last participants.

Serangeti, Bellville (GPS: S 33o 52.717’ E 18o 38.596’ )
From N2: Take R300 turn-off towards Bellville and take the left off-ramp onto the N1 towards Bellville / City.
Travel to the R302 off-ramp left, cross 1st robot and right at 2nd robot onto R302 North (Durbanville). Turn right at 3rd robot beyond intersection (M30 - Bill Bezuidenhout), cross Durban Road and turn right at 1st robot to Serangeti.
From Paarl or from City: Take the R302 off-ramp turning towards Durbanville. Follow directions above.

A good friend of the WC-DCA, Francois Esterhuisen, got married on 20 Dec 2008, Myself and Johan attended his wedding in Worcester! Our best wishes to you and Natassa, and we wish you a happy and prosperous married life!!
