Terence and Johan were invited to take part in the 2010 Sun Int Charity Tour, They rode approx 1600 km in 7 days...the week before the Argus. Herewith an comment on some of the first days... the summary of the tour could be followed at the blog adress ( bottom of the page)

The team was looking forward to lunch today after having covered just over half of today’s distance and they seemed to be in desperate need of the break.

According to the 2010 Cycle Challenge Team Captain, Ernest Horn, some of the team members have been taking strain today. Earlier on, the team was maintaining a speed of 38 - 40km/hour but the route became steeper. Nonetheless, they held thumbs that the wind direction would be in their favour. There were more breaks this afternoon due to the heat so it was essential that the team had the opportunity to take in more liquids and to reapply sunscreen at regular intervals.

They hoped to sustain a speed of 35km/hour throughout the afternoon and this goal was reached. Ernest went on to highlight the performances of Terence Parkin, Johann Reyneke and Richard Sainsbury.

“Terence (an Olympic Champion) and Johann (an elite rider) are excellent cyclists and they pulled in front and took the wind to help the team,” says Ernest. This requires strength. He went on to compare the cycling formation to that of a flock of birds, where the bird flying in front has to be strong enough to be in that position. He also went on to say that we have learnt to emulate this by observing nature. “One can save up to 35 percent more energy, depending where you ride in the formation.”

Ernest also mentioned that Richard Sainsbury excelled in the role of domestique. (A domestique is a cyclist who works for the benefit of his team and leader.) “Richard had to work the hardest as it is his duty to help slower riders to catch up with the group.”

Everyone on the 2010 Cycle Challenge gets the opportunity to lead the team whether or not they are strong or weaker riders. When it is a particular person’s turn to lead the group, the rest of the team will follow the speed of the leader.

At the end of the day, everyone is in good health and happy to put their feet up before having an early night. Tomorrow, we’re off to Kimberley.

2009 Deaflympic Games has been successfully concluded, and everyone would go back to their respective homes safely. Chinese Taipei continued hearing-impaired movement on the global community to provide services and continuous contribution to the effort, it was decided in 2010 October 29 to November 7, organized by Tour de Formosa tournament race, welcomed the hearing-impaired cyclist countries to attend. We will provide free meals and accommodation, you only need to pay the cost of a return ticket to Taiwan. We will also invite ICSD bike TD to Taiwan to provide technical guidance.It is a joy and warmth of the event, looked forward to hearing-impaired cyclist communicate with each other, but also looking forward to riding through the Central station, so that everyone more aware of Taiwan's beauty and culture. We also hope that the Tour de Formosa tournament race can become deaf Tour de France, fixed biennial event go forever. Comment:- Terence swam very well. He was shock and surprised his time 2:16.32. He have not been training for 3 years. He just came back 4 months ago in proper training. He was so very happy with his time. His best time 2:12.50. He now got two gold medals so far. He will swim 400m I.Medley and 4x100m Medley relay tomorrow.

Cyclist Paul Wood (USA) Grabs the First Taipei Gold - 1000m sprint

The weather was quite hot and everybody was sweating but this did not stop them from watching one of the most exciting games in Deaflympics: Cycling Road. Familiar and new cyclists were reeling in the failures and glories of their cycling races today. The United States cycling team started off strong in the morning’s individual races. However, the most exciting cyclists among them were none other than the Gold medalist, Paul Wood from USA, who claimed ten medals from the previous five Deaflympics. And today he grabbed the Gold medal from his Russian opponent Kirill Ivanovich Pestov who then won the Silver medal in the narrow 1000m Sprint race.

When asked about his biggest test as a cyclist in Taipei, he replied candidly, “In this road there is no room for any error and everything must be precise. For an instance my teammate made an error today when he made a curve and slipped. It cost him a medal. It happened to me in Melbourne when I made a grave error and lost the medal. I ranked second and my competitor ranked fifteenth but I made a mistake at 200 meters in race and I lost. I felt sick. So my biggest challenge here is to be precise and careful.” However, as careful as he was, he was not fazed by other teams as his biggest competitor is his own teammates.

This is his last Deaflympics as an athlete but he felt proud that he won the Gold medal. Paul Wood said, “My age doesn’t matter as long I set my mind to it.”

Oor vandag... Ek was bietjie senuweeagtig toe ek moet gaan sprint vir 1000m. Toe dit my beurt en begin om te ry, ek weet ek kan goed en hard sprint te ry en toe die laaste 200m dan moet ek voluit hard ry, toe begin my ratte en kettings uitglip en ek het dit gehoop dat dit moet ophou glip, maar dit wou nie, toe bietjie tyd verloor.. Na almal klaar gesprint en kyk na die uitslae, en ek was die 17de gekom.. 1ste tot 16de sal dit in 8 finaal wees... net minder as sekonde.. Ek was so teleurgesteld en was kwaad vir die fiets, dink dit het gebeur wanneer ek dit laas geval het.. Het dit na man toe gevat en dit laat reggestel. En gaan dit more ry en toets of dit reg is.... So ek was uit van die dag..Wens ek kon nog verder sprints!! Verder ek daar gekyk hoe die ryres gery... Hulle is nogal baie goed. Christo is ook al uit. Na die race het ons huistoe gegaan, lank vir die bus gewag. Vandag was so baie warm, so 34-36 grade, my arms is rooi gebrand soos kreef!! HAHA

Deaflympics opening ceremony set to be damp affair

A group of volunteers practice sign language in Taipei yesterday to prepare for the 21st Summer Deaflympics that officially open today.

Anyone planning to attend the Deaflympics’ opening ceremony tonight might want to wear a rain coat or carry an umbrella as the chance of rain is high, the Central Weather Bureau said yesterday.

Hoe gaan dit nog met julle?

Gaan goed met ons Ek het nie gister aand lekker geslaap nie, weet nie hoekom nie. Dan het ons ook n lekker ontbyt gehad, maar ons besef dat dit gaan elke dag dieselfde ontbyt, lunch en dinner wees, dan sal ons raak gatvol daarvoor om sella kos te eet vir volgende 2 weke? huh?? ons het vandag lekker rustig geoefen en ook n bietjie fun gehad. Maar die pad was baie plat.. Verder het ons terug hotel toe gegaan. Gestort en ook n lunh geeet. Ons moet 1 uur bymekaar wees vir vergaderig oor vanaand se opening ceremony en wat moet ons aantrek en iets.. Sal nog die fotos neem vir die opening ceremony... Lekker dag verder en groete daar.

Dankie vir die email en altyd lekker om van julle te hoor...

Gaan goed hier kant, het maar so so geslaap... Ons het vandag na ander skool besoek, klein kinders lyk oulik... Toe ons so 10.30 terug na hotel toe, het ons maar gaan gou aantrek dan gaan ons buite oefen en ons het gehoop die weer gaan saam met ons speel, maar dit het nie.. Reen en stop dan weer reen... Ai Taipei se weer is anders. Kan nie hier lekker oefen nie, want daar is baie robot, baie karre, poegie en ook te veel mense... Die oransiese mense se daar is nie n plek vir fietsry te oefen nie, ka nie glo wat hulle se nie.. is kwaad vir dit..

So vandag het ek nie lekker geofen nie, want toe reen begin en die pad was nat en ek wou draai ry op klippe teels, toe het dit begin gegly en ek het dit kliphard geval. Was baie seer, Christo het dit duidelik gesien, hy was agter my. Terence en Christo het my gou help en maak my fiets reg.. My heup en arm is seer, dit het gebloei.. Ek is so hartseer, want die armband wat trek$stoor my gegee het vir good luck, afgebreek.. Ek gaan dit more laat reg maak. Gelukkige my fiets is ok, net by Sram sti shitff is paar skrap. verder is ok.. Ons het terug Hotel toe gegaan en n lunch geeet. Nou moet en my fiets gaan bad, want dis baie vuil van reen... Hoop nie dat ek gaan more baie styf wees nie van val nie.

Hoe gaan dit nog daar by julle?? Hoop dit gaan nog goed met julle? Gaan goed hier kant. Die weer is maar bietjie deurmekaar, reen dan stop en dan weer reeen dan stop... En ook baie warm.. Het maar vandag op trainer geoefen by buite onder afdak by swembad... Nogal baie sweet uitgekom, want dis was warm, en dan ons het welkom funksie gehad.. Verder was ok. Dan het ek n bietjie massage. My bene voel ok... More ogg 9 uur moet ons na ander dowe skool gaan besoek dan terug kom, dan sal ons gaan oefen..

Countdown for 2009 Deaflympics in Taipei!

The 21st Deaflympics is coming up in Taipei on the 5th of September to the 15th of September. More than four thousand athletes with hearing disabilities from eighty-one countries are ready to perform their best efforts. Other than the opening ceremony at Taipei Stadium, the Deaflympics Carnival is also coming up on the same date on the 5th of September, 2009 at Taipei Arena. Various drama performances and model competitions will also be held.

The opening ceremony of Deaflympics in Taipei will start at 19:30 on the 5th of September, 2009 at Taipei Stadium. The ticket prices for entering are ranging from NTD$200 for student tickets to NTD$6000. The theme of the opening ceremony is to emphasize the beauties of Taiwan. There will be more than five thousand local and international performers joined for this first Deaflympics held in Asia. ICSD is pleased to recognize that there will be 1670 new first-time Deaflympics participants, with 1003 returning athletes. Athletes will compete in 177 different events in seventeen (17) sports with 20 disciplines.

Working closely since 2003 with the Taipei Deaflympics Organizing Committee's very fine and dedicated group of staff and volunteers has been a positive experience. A larger and broader media representation will be evident in Taipei, with over 40 media companies.

Hi Jurg

Thank you for the e-mail and I just survived Trans-Baviaans. We lost 2hrs because one rider from my team suffered and he pulled out just before it got dark. We rode vey well in the last 50km passing lots of teams. We did 13 and half hours. I really enjoyed it and it was great experiences. My legs are fine, but my bum is a bit sore. Ha! ha!

Well done... it seems you are in good shape for DL !!!!

The latest news from the selection committee was that the selection process would be very strict and the selected cyclists must be of such standard that a medal would be within his/her reach. From SA Cycling's side, we have given the committee the trials results and relevant information on each cyclists performance 2008/2009.

The committee gathered in Durban this weekend and said that official announcements will be made on 18 April 2009. So Practice and patience until then...

Road Race Events Sun 5th July 2009
The 100km ROAD RACE follows a challenging route in an easterly direction and passes Plettenberg Bay. This route is an official Alpha Pharm Seeding Series event for the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour 2010
The 46km ROAD RACE follows the same route as the 100km route but the cyclists will turn after Harkerville at the 23km mark.

29-member Israeli delegation to attend Deaflympics in Taiwan
Tel-Aviv, Israel — Israel plans to dispatch a 29-member delegation to Taiwan for the 21st Deaflympic Games from Sept. 5-15, Taiwan’s representative to Israel Ting Gan-cheng said Wednesday.
Ting unveiled the plan after David Lanesman and Nissim Kakon, chairman and vice chairman of the Israel Deaf Sports Organization, respectively, paid a call on him March 9.
During the meeting, Lanesman said that the organization is attaching great importance to the upcoming Deaflympics, as this is the first time Taiwan is holding an international sports competition for athletes with hearing problems, according to Ting.
Ting added that Lanesman also displayed a watch that he was given by President Ma Ying-jeou during a recent visit to Taipei to discuss Israel’s participation in the international event.
Competitions at the 21st Deaflympics in Taipei will be held in 20 disciplines, including tennis, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, handball, beach volleyball, swimming, judo, beach volleyball, karate, and judo.
The Israeli delegation will consist of 17 athletes, four coaches, one medical expert, one cameraman, one security guard and five representatives of the sports organization, according to Lanesman.
Israeli athletes will compete in wushu, bowling, orienteering, basketball and beach volleyball events, Lanesman added.
Ting promised to provide all necessary support to the Israeli athletes to help them optimize their performance and said he hopes that Taiwan and Israel can enhance cooperation through sports exchanges.

Service teams for Deaflympics vow to promote national diplomacy
TAIPEI, Taiwan — Goodwill service teams that will work at the 2009 Deaflympics in Taipei held a rally Sunday, with members promising their best efforts in receiving athletes and their family members from 81 countries.
Vice President Vincent Siew participated in the rally, jointly organized by Rotary International and 87 Taipei schools, along with Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin and Sports Affairs Council Minister Tai Hsia-ling.
In his remarks at the rally marking the inauguration of the teams, Siew said he expected the volunteers to show foreign visitors Taiwan’s hospitality and help promote the country’s international image.
He also indicated that if the Rotary Club needed his assistance, he would be happy to give it.
The 2009 Deaflympics, to take place in September, will be the second large-scale international event Taiwan has ever hosted. The first will be the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung in July.
The number of countries participating in this year’s Deaflympics is the largest ever, and over 10,000 athletes, families and support staff are expected to come to Taipei for the event, Siew said.
Hau said he is confident that Taiwan will garner more medals this year after it took nine gold, four silver and three bronzes in 2005.
He also expressed the hope that the international community will feel Taipei’s friendship and vitality at the sports event.

The 21st Summer Deaflympics Taipei 2009 has adopted as its mascot the lively Taipei green tree frog (Rhacophorus taipeianus). While it is the tiniest of Taiwan's eight indigenous species of frogs, it is remarkable for its ability to jump long distances. Similarly, although Taiwan is a small island nation, it has impressed the world with its economic power, springing to new heights.
The banyan leaf worn by the male mascot and the azalea flower on the female are respectively the Taipei city tree and flower. They symbolize the city's vision of a fresh and environment-friendly future. The mascots have their arms wide open, in a pose that looks like the Chinese character for north “bei”, which represents the host city, Taipei. With open arms and cheerful smiles, Taipei enthusiastically welcomes participants coming from every part of the world!

In order to encourage Chinese Taipei athletes to obtain medals at the 2009 Deaflympics, the Sports Affairs Council, Executive Yuan is planning to raise the bonus reward for medalists from the current 750,000 NT to 900,000 NT, in addition to 1.5 times the amount of extra bonus for the host country. For athletes participating at the World Games this July, even though the medal bonus reward has not been raised, gold medalists can still receive 1.5 times the amount of extra bonus.

The latest entry figures for the Taipei Deaflympics, which will take place from Sept. 5 to 15 2009. ICSD has confirmed that 3985 athletes from 81 countries have already entered to compete in 20 sport events.
2801 people have signed up to become volunteers, and are currently going through training at Taipei Municipal University of Education and National Taipei University of Education. Plans are in the works to also recruit 50 international volunteers to help out with the competition.
The Deaflympics started in 1924 and is the fastest growing multiple sport event in the world. It is a place where deaf people come together and celebrate their differences and compete for gold on an equal playing field against other deaf athletes.
In 2009 more than 3000 athletes from over 65 countries will compete. The Deaflympics comes under the umbrella of the IOC but are run by Deaf people for the Deaf.
The first World Games for the Deaf had under 200 contestants from ewer than ten countries; modern Deaflympics events feature thousands of deaf and hard of hearing athletes from multiple countries.
President Ma Ying-jeou said that hosting the Deaflympics will not only thrust Taipei onto the international stage and provide an excellent opportunity to introduce Taiwan to the world, but increase international community's understanding of the country. "I hope that next year with the Kaohsiung City hosting the 2009 World Games in July and Taipei City hosting the Deaflympics in Taipei in September, Taiwan will once again be on the international stage and let the world know that Taiwan will never be absent from major international sporting events," Ma said at an event to mark the beginning of the one-year countdown to the 21st Deaflympics.
The international sports event for people who are hearing impaired will be held in Taipei from Sept. 5-15, 2009.
"Through the Deaflympics, we hope everyone can get to see the modern and rich culture of Taipei City," Ma added.
To highlight the significance of the event, the president began his speech using sign language to say "I am Ma Ying-jeou, and I’ll take part in the 2009 Taipei Deaflympis." He received loud applause from the audience.
Named host city for the 21st Summer Deaflympics in 2003, Taipei is the first city in Asia to host the Deaflympics games, marking a historic milestone for the hosting of international sporting events in Taiwan.
Noting that the theme of Deaflympics is "Equality through sports," Ma said athletes should have the spirit to "fight to the end and never give up" just like Taiwanese taekwondo Olympian Su Li-wen, who fought to the last minute and nearly won a bronze medal despite painful and crippling injuries.
Su, along with two Taiwanese Olympic bronze medalists Chen Wei-ling and Lu Ying chi, also attended the countdown event to call on the general public to take part in the 2009 Deaflympics.
International film stars Jackie Chan and noted actress Lin Ching-hsia were also at the activity.
Action star Chan told the audience that he has one deaf ear after falling down from a tree while shooting a movie in Yugoslavia in 1987. But he has overcome the inconvenience of losing hearing in one ear.
"Never give up and you will be the winner," he said.
After singing the theme song of the 2009 Deaflympics "Power in Me," Ma, Chan and other participants at the event together activated a 365-day-countdown clock and wished for a smooth and successful games.
Around 4,000 athletes from 80 countries are expected to take part in the 2009 Taipei Deaflympics. They will compete in 20 sporting categories.
The Deaflympics date back to 1924 when the first Summer Deaflympics were held in Paris, France. In 1995 the Games received official recognition by the International Olympic Committee. Today, 96 national deaf sports federations are members of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf.
The Deaflympic games are more than simply athletics and sports. They provide an arena for Deaf people to meet, communicate, network and socialise with other Deaf people. This social interaction is seen as a vital part of the games.

Deaflympics Taipei 2009 expected to draw over 10,000 foreign visitors
TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Deaflympics 2009, scheduled to be held in September in Taipei, is expected to attract over 10,000 foreign visitors, the city government said Wednesday.

The visitors will include 3,600 athletes from 81 countries, as well as their coaches and families, said Taipei Deputy Mayor Wu Ching-chi.
He said Taipei is very honored to have the opportunity to host the games, which he said will "let Taiwan embrace the world and the world embrace Taiwan."
The event will also help Taipei become more disabled-friendly, he added.
The deputy mayor made the remarks in a news conference held to introduce the Deaflympics lantern zone at the upcoming annual Taipei Lantern Festival.

Subject: My Boland Tour Experiences!!

I took part the Boland Tour last week and it was a great experience for
me because I had not done tour before. I have learnt alot.
Stage 1: We had to do 2,7km climb up to Paarl Monument. It was 36
degrees and I started too fast and my throat burned like fire. Managed
to hang in there. Did 9:54. Came 141out of 147. I thought there will be
no pro team, but there were German team, British team, Neotal team,
Garmin Felt team and young MTN team.
Stage 2: We rode hard up to the Pass near Riebeeck Kastel. One rider's
crank pedal came off and Gary dropped the chain, but luckily we managed
to catch up the bunch after the Pass. On the way back to Wellington and
I ran out of liquid, so I moved back to the car, but the driver Gerald
of our club took so long to come back to me and I could not get back to
the bunch. I rode in the last 2 laps without fluids. The driver had to
follow the leaders and he did not give me enough liquids when he came
past. I was cross, but luckily some cyclists gave me some drinks. Did
124km in 3hr 14mins and came 115/133.
Stage 3: I was shocked when they told me that I did not finish the stage
2 and I spoke to the time keeper. He forgot to write down my number. If
you don't finish the stage, you cannot ride next stage. Luckily
everything was sorted out. We had to do 5 laps at Paardeberg. I got
dropped just before 2 lap because 3 guys fell and I braked hard to avoid
accident, then the bunch went hard on long climb and I could not get
back to the bunch, but kept going. I felt like a taxi driver because I
caught up lots of dropped riders along the way. My legs nearly died on
the last climb near the finish. Did 125km in 3hr 36mins and came
113/115. I can't believe that my coach, Michael's frame broke, but he
managed to do well.
Stage 4: It was so hot and I did not feel like riding because my legs
felt so sore. My team-mate, Tim did not start because he did not feel
good. Lucas and Kent did not enter first 3 stages because of work, but
they tried to start fourth stage. The organiser turned them down because
it was unfair for others. We went fast up to near Franshoek, then the
pace went too fast on the way to Wellington. I got dropped near Klapmuts
and I realised that I can't continue without liquids because the
secondary car was gone. So Chris Botha had puncture earlier and he could
not catch up the bunch, so we took short cut to Paarl and we climbed up
to Hex River Pass to watch the leaders. I managed to get liquids to
finish at the top. Armand did not complete because he did not feel good.
I did not finish race, but it was a great experience for me. Gary from
our club won in the veteran section and I am happy for him.
I need to concentrate on improving my long hill climbing and long speed
work near the future. I am feeling fine, but my legs still felt sore. I
hope, I will recover in time for the Argus.

Cyclists must enter before or on 3 Feb 2009 for a lower entry fee. After 3 Feb, entries will be possible online if there is space. Seeding cut off is Feb 9, but cyclists pay the late entry fee, again this applies if there is space. So if you want to be sure you are in the race and that you are considered for seeding, you should enter before 3 Feb 2009. Cyclists who enter after 9 Feb will start at the back. Wow!!! What a weekend!!! I am deeply thankful that we had a wonderful and accident free “super cycling” weekend. Above all ...., the teamwork, friendship and good spirit that were experienced during the weekend will long be remembered!!

Last night the last two cyclists (Wiseman and Matwa) were put on the bus to Cala and I believe they have arrived safely.

I am busy with the reports to SADSF and will post results and info on our web site (blog) shortly. Remember that a CD of ± 500 photos of the weekend is available @ R40 – 00 and the orders will be posted shortly.

Congratulations!!! To each of the cyclists that took part and especially our PODIUM guys!! They were:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all that were part of our activities this weekend. I will publish a special “thank you” list of all involved.

More news were that MTB racing and development were discussed and we plan to get that section of Deaf Cycling up and running as we do have a lot of Deaf MTB riders out there.

As far as the Deaflympics (PS only 217 days to go) are concerned, we would take the selected group and start with proper fitness tests and then training programs (based on the fitness test outcomes) and possibly 2 training camps afterwards.

I trust this newsletter find you all in good health and working hard towards achieving your goals / New Year’s resolutions.... We have less than two weeks before our trials and 230 days to the DEAFLYMPICS!! I trust you kept yourself in good shape for our trials...

The organising committee gathered on Thursday 15 January to do the final planning, all seem to be in place and I would like to pass some of the arrangements on to you.

1. ACCOMMODATION:

The accommodation arranged is situated in Bellville close to the Tygervalley Centre, called the Serangeti Self Catering Units. (C/o Mountain View Ave and Bill Bezuiden-hout Ave, Bellville. We get entrance to the flats on Friday 30 January at 4 pm (possi-bly earlier) and must be out 8.30 on Monday (the last bunch). Contact myself Jurg 083 702 2826 or owner Chris Swart 083 768 9062.

2. TEAM BUILDING:

For team building and smooth organising it was felt that all cyclists must BOOK IN on Friday and stay with the group until Sunday after the road race and braai. We can allow an additional person / supporter per cyclist but this must be confirmed with Jurg.

The cost / per person (registration fee) would be R150 which will be used for the cost of a golf T-shirt. All other cost would be for the account of the organising committee; accommodation, food, reg. fees, travelling to and from venues (help with personal transport costs), airfares etc. We need your R150 reg. fee upon arrival and bring along some spending money (one or two meals for your pocket).

Transport will be provided, to and from airport and venues (sprinter bus and cycle trailer)

ROUTE DESCRIPTION: Head out along Spaanschemat River Road (level) and over the Eastern side of Ou Kaapse Weg (270m steep climb) to Sun Valley. Continue straight over Black Hill (Medium climb) to Main Road, turn right through Simonstown, up Smitswinkel (gradual 230m climb) past Cape Point, through Scarborough, and up the Slangkop climb (100m climb) to Kommetjie before returning towards Sun Valley. Then it’s up and over Ou Kaapse Weg (270m gradual climb) for the second time and all the way to the finish in Ladies Mile Extension (level).

10:00 All should be safely back at start to return to Serangeti at 10:30.

Travel to the R302 off-ramp left, cross 1st robot and right at 2nd robot onto R302 North (Durbanville). Turn right at 3rd robot beyond intersection (M30 - Bill Bezuidenhout), cross Durban Road and turn right at 1st robot to Serangeti.
From Paarl or from City: Take the R302 off-ramp turning towards Durbanville. Follow directions above.

We have set the dates for our trials, arranged accomodation and the only thing left for u to do is to get on the bike, train hard and… LOOK FORWARD to a fun packed weekend with all the deaf cycling ‘gurus’ present, stories from Taiwan, slide shows and GOOD company.

1. Complete a expression of interest form 2009 DEAFLYMPICS and sent to us ASAP (DOESN’T MATTER IF U DID FOR SEPT TRIALS… WE NEED A NEW APL FORM FROM U !!!

Must have been a long and hot day for all the cyclists!! any thing under 6 hrs can be considdered as an excellent time, 6 teams achieved that!!

30, 31 Jan and 1 Feb 2009

The Trials will be hosted by The WC-DCA and the venue will be Cape Town !!

LOCAL NEWS WC-DCA
Christo Botha -- Practiced the weekend long distance with his double century team.... next weekend the long 200km!!
Enrikus -- message that he was still suffering from flu..

Ashley Waiting for new ppa no...
Bennie Botha arrived a bit late for the Joostenberg race and started with the short route but did the long route... he said afterwards... that was good practice he he he

Johan Reyneke did the Klein Joostenberg 88km ; kept with the front bunch but lost a second or 2 with the last sprint. He ended 13/497 time:2.20.54 Winning time: 2.20.45 (ave 37.51kmph)
He then turned back to ride with Bennie back to the finish... well done Johan!!

GAUTENG NEWS:
Terence Parkin did the P&P 94.7 cycle race on Sun (very fast race ave:45.95kmph!!) the winning time of 2.03.39 were achieved by a bunch of 13 top riders, Malcolm Lange, Nolan Hofman etc. Terrence had a cyclist falling in front of him, which causes him to fall as well, he lost his group, rode very hard to catch up with them again, but at that stage a long uphill and his legs didnt last.... he ended with a time of 2.20.58 .... 287/16955 ave speed 40.3kmph well done Terence!!

EASTERN CAPE
Paul Kloppers reported that he practice hard... he got a coach to help him.... well done Paul
